DescriptionGreek. Illustrating a group of men arrested by Roman soldiers and condemned as Christians to freeze to death in lake Sebaste unless they renounced their faith. The martyrs are crowded into the lower part of the panel clothed in gold drapery with red and green touches. The land surrounding the lake is sparse. Above there is a walled city and dome with a man warming himself by a fire on the left. In the sky are three figures - St. Spyridon UL, Christ in the centre and the archangel Michael in the UR. Forty white circles fill the sky between these busts - one for each martyr.
