DescriptionRussian icon. Part of a series of icons probably consisting of 12 panels. The silver frame is broader on the bottom with varying shades of blue and green enamel decoration. Two elaborate towers, one in green and one in pink, flank the background joined by a pink ribbon and a lower wall. In the foreground, Mary, with Elizabeth and Zacharias to her left, stands before the high priest Simeon. Simeon, who is not dressed as a holy priest, is carrying the infant Jesus. Behind him two bright pink seraphim flutter.
