DescriptionRussian icon. Part of a series of icons probably consisting of 12 panels. The silver frame is broader on the bottom with varying shades of blue and green enamel decoration. The panel is divided vertically into three sections: an orange rocky landscape on the left, the river Jordan in the middle, and a pale blue landscape on the right. St. John the Baptist stands on the left blessing Christ, who is submerged in the river, in the middle. From above, the Holy Spirit as a dove hovers against a golden background beneath a segment of starry sky.
