DescriptionWithin the border, 6 figures flank the central image. Blessed Markian, martyr Akindyr, and martyr Pegasius on the left and martyr Aphthonius, martyr Elpikiphoros, and martyr Anempodistos on the right. The Virgin stands in a mandorla supporting a cloth over her outstretched arms. Above her is a roundel of the infant Jesus. Rows of martyrs, bishops, female saints and prophets process toward her on either side while a group of angels stands behind her. Below Mary is the figure of St. Romanos, the hymn writer, holding a scroll. Emperor Leo (crowned), St. Tarasius and three other figures stand on the left and St. Andrew, St. Eniphomios and Empress Zoe stand on the right.Collections
