DescriptionMarble sculpture of a bust length male figure with shoulder-length hair and curling beard. Back is unworked and flat. Identified by an inscription on the sockle as being a bust of Zeus Ampelikos. He wears a chiton (shift) and himation (cloak) - right hand resting in the fold of the himation draped around his chest. Belongs to a series of votive busts of Zeus from the Upper Tembris Valley (between Kutahya and Afyon in northwest Phyrgia, Turkey). Made by itinerant stone cutters connected with the major workshop of the area working from the middle of the second century to first quarter of the fourth century. Artist identified on basis of other works signed by him and other votives and funerary stele known by his hand - Epitynchanos.
