DescriptionNote to Warden Bickersteth from the artist dated May 13, 1936: "The last time I saw 'Memory's Melodies" was a couple of years ago when it came to Midland here with a show of the Canadian Group of Painters work. I was asked to oversee the unpacking and placing in the Y.M.C.A. for the Woman's Canadian Club.
At that time I noticed a slightly broken pot in the paint or near one of the player's hands. But had no chance to mend it. I did not see what was the cause of it.
It could be readily repaired by the rubbing of a touch of boiled oil; and while we the surrounding surface would suggest the closest colour to apply to the small break.
Hoping to be in the city some time and to call and see you and the pciture, when all concerning the poainting of it may be recalled.
I am yours sincerely,
W. J. Wood".
Original purchase price: $100.00 (offered by the Warden following the work's hanging in Hart House for "some time" and receving positive response. --- letter from the Warden to the artist dated December 10, 1935). From a letter to the Warden written by the artist (dated December 12, 1935) it appears that A.Y. Jackson arranged for the work to be introduced into Hart House.
