Douglas Stone
Inspired by his frequent art cartage business trips across the eastern United States, artist Doug Stone has become a mindful practitioner of the art of observation.
Stone keeps a disposable camera at the ready, shooting drive-by style out the window, passing rural townships. Fascinated by deconstructing culture and distilling meaning through material things, he lurks through yard sales and flea markets seaching for inspiration through found objects and paraphernalia.
Stone’s paintings are unique in their immediacy and intimacy of symbolism, capturing a sense of passage, grace and movement. His photographic works create a moving portrait of everyday life.
Stone’s work in each discipline is original and stands on its own merit. Altogether, they represent a true portrait of this artist: frenetic, incessantly creative and highly intellectual.
