BiographyVery little is known about maker Robert Tyrill. Judging by the number of extant pieces, his clientele could not have been particularly large but the spirited execution of this basket would indicate that he was a very accomplished craftsman. John Luff perhaps falls into a similar category in that few pieces have ever come on the market but those that have emerged show a notable talent. Tyrill was apprenticed to John White, one of the greatest silversmiths of the 18th century and entered his first mark in partnership with Bennett Bradshaw in 1737.
