Gordon Lebredt
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Lebredt studied at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Architecture from 1967-1970, before enrolling in the School of Art in 1972. While in art school Lebredt earned a reputation as one of the most advanced thinkers in contemporary art in Manitoba, for his groundbreaking performances at the newly founded Plug In Gallery (1972), and his site-specific installations at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. During this time he also worked extensively with Bill Lobchuk and the Grand Western Canadian Screen Shop in Winnipeg, producing major serigraph prints in collaboration with the legendary Screen Shop. Several significant prints from this collaboration were included in By the Numbers.
Since moving to Toronto in 1981, Lebredt has been the focus of solo exhibitions at YYZ Artist's Outlet, S.L. Simpson Gallery, and the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, and group exhibitions in Regina, Halifax, London, and New York City. Lebredt has curated exhibitions, contributed to numerous art publications, and worked as an art director for several major motion pictures.
